Pass The Biscuits!
Description:
On May 24th, 2002 at 12:15pm deep in the Delta in Helena,
AR it was King Biscuit Time for the 14,000th time since November 21, 1941. "Sunshine"
Sonny Payne, Robert Lockwood "Jr.", Charlie Musselwhite, Loisiana
Red, Houston Stackhouse Jr. and many others helped celebrate this landmark occasion
for the beacon that introduced the delta blues to the world.
Project Details:
King Biscuit Time is normally a fifteen minute daily radio
broadcast, but on this special day the show lasted close to an hour. Still university
students at the time, the crew did their best to elbow out a good spot amidst
the other photographers, videographers, and spectators. After the broadcast
and a few interviews, it was obvious that this was turning into an extraordinary
day. The crew explored the dilapidated structures in downtown Helena before
returning to Memphis for a meal with the legendary Robert Lockwood Jr. Upon
returning to Ohio, it was apparent that something amazing had happened.
The result of this incredible project was a run of DVD's entitled "Pass the Biscuits!". The packaging, doused with imagery from Helena, proudly displays the crown logo like a badge of merit. The disc features performances by none other than Robert Lockwood Jr., along with Charlie Musselwhite, Louisiana Red and others, all live on the air that remarkable day, with long-time program host "Sunshine" Sonny Payne.
